Keep Current is a maintenance service from CURABIS that continuously adapts customer-specific apps and Per Tenant Extensions (PTE) to Microsoft's updates of Dynamics 365 Business Central. The service includes proactive monitoring of Microsoft releases, sandbox testing of critical flows in sales, purchasing, inventory and finance, compatibility checks of extensions, integrations and AppSource solutions, and translation of release notes into concrete actions. The result is that apps remain compatible with new Business Central versions without disrupting operations.

A Per Tenant Extension (PTE) is a customer-specific extension to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, written in AL and deployed to one specific tenant rather than distributed through AppSource. PTEs are used for company-specific customisations, integrations and business logic that cannot be solved with standard functionality or an AppSource app. PTEs are installed directly through the Business Central Admin Center and require ongoing maintenance because Microsoft can deprecate APIs and functionality in the biannual releases.

Microsoft releases two major updates to Dynamics 365 Business Central per year, in April (Release Wave 1) and October (Release Wave 2). Each major release can include new features, API changes, deprecated functionality and breaking changes for customisations. In addition, Microsoft ships monthly minor updates with hotfixes and platform improvements. For Business Central SaaS, updates are mandatory and cannot be opted out of, which makes ongoing maintenance of customisations and integrations critical.

Breaking changes are changes in Business Central that break compatibility with existing code, APIs or integrations. They can include removal of deprecated objects, changes to function signatures, new mandatory fields or changes in data structures. Microsoft announces breaking changes in release notes and deprecation tags in the AL code 1 to 2 releases before they take effect. PTE apps and integrations must be adjusted before then, otherwise the company risks functionality breaking after a Business Central update.

Without ongoing maintenance, PTE apps risk failing or blocking installation of Microsoft's biannual Business Central updates. Concrete consequences include failed installations, broken integrations, performance issues, security vulnerabilities and, in the worst case, production outages where users cannot create orders or post invoices. Microsoft Business Central SaaS makes updates mandatory, so companies without maintenance are forced into ad-hoc emergency projects at every release.

Standard support is reactive and handles errors when they occur, typically after users have reported them. Keep Current is proactive maintenance that prevents errors by preparing PTE apps and integrations for Microsoft's updates before they reach production. Keep Current includes a planned testing cadence, compatibility checks, rollback plan and a dedicated contact who knows the solution. The service is typically combined with automated testing, so every release is validated against the full business logic before going live.

CURABIS tests PTE apps against upcoming Business Central versions in a dedicated sandbox environment that Microsoft provides before each release. Tests cover critical business flows in Quote-to-Cash, Procure-to-Pay, inventory, manufacturing and finance, combined with automated regression tests written in AL. Every test run is documented with results, identified changes and a rollback plan. Only when all tests pass is the update rolled out to production through the Business Central Admin Center.
